Intrinsic to the artistic vision of this album is curator and producer DJ Spooky (Paul Miller), a conceptual artist, writer, and musician who pushes creative boundaries in the fields of visual art, sound art, music, film, media, and graphic art. His work has appeared in a wide variety of contexts such as New York's Whitney Biennial, the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany, the Vienna Kunsthalle, the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, New York’s Lincoln Center Festival, Spoleto Festival, Festival D’Automne (Paris) and many others. Inspiring, defining, and catalyzing this project is Meredith Monk, a major creative force in the performing arts. A leading American composer, singer, director, choreographer, and filmmaker, Meredith has created more than 100 works that traverse the performing and visual arts disciplines. A pioneer in “extended vocal technique” and “interdisciplinary performance,” Meredith creates works that thrive at the intersection of music and movement, image and object, light and sound in an effort to discover and weave together new modes of perception. Since graduating from Sarah Lawrence College (1964), her artistry has been recognized with numerous fellowships, honorary degrees, and awards. For full bio, please click here. |
